About  Us

Mission – The Weeks State Park Association is a “Friends-of-the-Park” volunteer organization.

Our purpose is to encourage and support compatible uses of the Park, protect and benefit its environment, provide educational and recreational opportunities to the public as well as information on the legacy of John Wingate Weeks.

Our Association has supported a variety of projects to repair and improve park buildings, infrastructure and exhibits.

The WSPA works in a cooperative spirit and partnership with the NH Department of Natural and Cultural Resources and its two Divisions: Parks & Recreation and Forests  & Lands. Another valued partner is the UNH Extension Services.

Weeks State Park Association history

The Association was conceived in 1981 in response to drastic reductions in the NH Parks Department budget. Initial plans called for the closing of the Park for two years. Whitefied, NH, resident Philip Quinn, negotiated an arrangement with the Director of the Division of Parks, Paul F. Doherty, so that local volunteers could staff the Park, thus keeping the Park open.

The formalizing of the Weeks State Park Association was accomplished in 1983.
