This Thursday's program: WSPA Annual Meeting followed by a *History of the White Mountain National Forest with Dave Govatski

At 6 PM, Dave Govatski will present a program on the *History of the White Mountain National Forest 1929-1945.
This presentation is the second of three on the history of the 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. After a quick review of WMNF's creation, we will explore the turbulent period from 1929 to 1945, including the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps, the 1938 Hurricane, and the impact of the Second World War on the White Mountains.
*This is a change from our original program that was scheduled "Bogs and Fens" with Tom Eid who will be unable to do his presentation. The "Bogs and Fens" Field Trip, however, will still be held the following morning with Dave Govatski.
David Govatski’s professional background was with the U.S. Forest Service, where he worked for 33 years, retiring in various positions and locations across the country as a Forester, Silviculturist, and Forest Fire Management Officer.
Since retirement, David co-authored Forests for the People – The Story of the Eastern National Forests and served as a technical advisor for the film The People's Forest. David currently works as a Naturalist in New England and Alaska.
