At winter's end in 1947, driven by the devastating loss of a son killed in World War II, naturalist Edwin Way Teale and his wife Nellie followed the dawning spring season northward in an amazing 17,000-mile odyssey from the Everglades to Maine.

Teale wrote about the adventure in the best-selling book North with the Spring. Following in the footsteps of one of the sweetest adventures any American ever took, John Harris demonstrates that the beauty of the American East, even on a warming planet, is still hauntingly deep.

John R. Harris is a retired professor of Environmental Studies and former director of the Monadnock Institute of Nature, Place and Culture at Franklin Pierce University. He is coeditor of Beyond the Notches: Stories of Place in New Hampshire’s North Country

Please take special note that, due to the ongoing extensive renovations being undertaken at the House Museum and grounds at the summit of Weeks State Park, our Thursday evening programs will not be presented at Weeks State Park this season. With one exception (August 14 - Rialto Theatre), all Thursday evening programs will take place at the State of NH North Country Resource Center, 629 Main St. (Route 3) in Lancaster, NH.
