North Overlook to be replaced

Work is underway at the North Overlook. The WSPA board recently approved expenditures for the replacement of the observation platform and an upgrade of the trail to the site. The monies were obtained from a generous bequest from the estate of former WSPA President and former WSP Manager, Pat Nelson.

The before and after images of the North Overlook site are courtesy of Dave Govatski. The site is now ready for the new platform that will be built starting on 12 October. Volunteers and park staff will move the lumber to the project site on the 11th.

The new platform will be 16 x 16 replacing the 8 x 12 former platform. The new platform will start a few feet higher up on the hill and will include benches and an access ramp. The lumber will be carried 365 feet to the project site and an elevation drop of 45 feet based on Dave's measurements. A tool trailer will be parked in back of the lodge starting on the 12th. The four-person crew from the NorthWoods Stewardship Center will have a generator and various power tools to construct the platform.

We may need additional volunteers so stay tuned for more details as we get closer to October 11th.
